Envirometer for fire departments
This page shows the environmental impact of the average fire department based on an Envirometer and key figures.
For fire departments, the following four aspects have a significant environmental impact:
- fuel & heat
- electricity
- commercial waste
- water and wastewater
Transport is not included due to a lack of sufficient figures. Fuel consumption for heating is relatively high compared to other companies. This is because the fire department is open in the evenings and at night, and because firefighting gear must be continuously kept at a low temperature in order to function well.
Key figures
This average Envirometer also includes several indicative key figures.
Environmental aspect | Key figure | Average | Unit |
Electricity | electricity / surface area | 68 | kWh/m2 |
electricity / man hours | 1.0 | kWh/u
Water | water / man hours | 10 | m3/u |
Waste | waste / man hours | 0.19 | kg/u |
waste separation percentage | 17 | %
Fuels | gas / building contents | 6.0 | gaseq./m3 |
gas / man hours | 0.28 | gaseq./m3 |
* All energy flows for heating (natural gas, city heat, wood chips) have been included under ‘fuels’ and converted into natural gas equivalents.
